ENGLISH NOVEL REQUIRED READING
If you preordered English novels for students in 5th or 6th grade, the novels will be delivered to the English classrooms prior to the beginning of school. If you preordered English novels for students in 7th grade, you will pick up your novels on Back to School Day in the Student Life Center during the Upper School Open House. Please note that 8th grade students were unable to preorder novels. If you did not preorder English novels for your Middle School student they will be available for purchase at The Hub during the Upper School Open House on Back to School Day.
SUMMER READING REQUIREMENTS
The Language Arts Department at PCA requires each student to read a specific novel over the summer. In addition, 5th/6th grade students will read a book of choice and 7th/8th grade will read a biography. The Language Arts teachers have prepared assignments relating to these books to assist students with comprehension and thematic focus. Students will be expected to bring their completed assignments and their books on the first day of class.
PCA requires a specific version of the required novel in order to simplify classroom discussions and notations. The required summer reading novels are purchased by PCA for every returning Middle School student – the cost of the novel (approximately $5.00-8.00) will be billed to your PCA account. Required novels, along with a copy of the assignments for both books, will be distributed through the English classes to current 4th-7th grade students prior to the last day of school.
New students who have been accepted and enrolled to PCA prior to June 1 may pick up their copy of the required summer novel at the reception desks – students entering grades 5 and 6 may pick theirs up at the Lower School; students entering grades 7 and 8 should go to the reception area in the Upper School building. New students accepted and enrolled in June and July may pick up the required summer novel in the Admissions Office at the time of enrollment.
