Minimester 2008
Minimester is a one-week program scheduled for the week of March 10 – March 14, 2008 (though some trips may depart and/or arrive on the weekend). The purpose of the Minimester is to expand and enrich Prestonwood Christian Academy’s curriculum to help each student grow spiritually, mentally, and physically. Minimester is designed by the faculty and staff at Prestonwood Christian Academy.

Sign-up Procedures

Sign-ups are taking place each morning before school in the Upper School Atrium from 7:15-7:50 a.m.

Payment Schedule
The payment schedule for each trip is as follows:

  • 25% due on October 15
  • 25% due on November 15
  • 25% due on December 15
  • 25% due on January 15

Minimester Fundraiser
This year on October 20, we are holding our annual Jog-a-thon/Walk-a-thon. This is the one and only fundraising opportunity for every trip/course. We are encouraging all students to participate in this event.

MINIMESTER OPPORTUNITIES
The following opportunities are designed and available for 9th through 12th grade students.

Amazon Mission Trip
Estimated cost: $2,900
The Amazon mission trip is designed for those students wishing an exotic mission opportunity. Students will travel the Amazon River on a large houseboat and visit native tribes and villages, witnessing and working on various mission activities. Caribbean Mission Trip
Estimated cost: $2,800
The Caribbean Mission Trip is designed to allow our students to use their acquired foreign language skills in a real world situation. Students on this trip will be involved in work that might include activities such as running a Vacation Bible School, street theater evangelism, and door-to-door evangelism. Students will be paired with locals and missionaries to help them in their efforts. In addition to the fee which will be payable to the travel company according to their policies and provisions, each student will be responsible for passport and inoculation expenses. Fine Arts New York Trip
Estimated cost: $1,750
The Fine Arts New York trip is designed for those students interested in the arts, giving them a chance the see the arts at its best in New York City. For further details, please contact Joel Rutherford at jrutherford@prestonwoodchristian.org.

Ivy League College Tour
Estimated cost: $1,900
The Ivy League college tour is designed for those who are interested in a higher-learning university environment. This tour will visit colleges such as Harvard, Yale, Columbia during the day and sites of historical and cultural interest like the Boston Commons, Faneuil Hall, Empire State Building, Times Square, and a Broadway show during the evening in the Boston and New York City area. Los Angeles Media Trip
Estimated cost: $1,800
The Los Angeles media trip will expose students to the major media centers that make their home in the Los Angeles area. The trip will be very beneficial to any student aspiring to careers in film, television, advertising, marketing and news media. Rio Bravo Mission Trip
Estimated cost: $550
The Rio Bravo mission trip is designed for those students wanting a mission opportunity without the added cost of airfare and lengthy travel. Students on this trip will work at an orphanage in Rio Bravo, Mexico. This trip will be paid for through PCA’s business office according to the posted schedule. Abilene Mission Trip
Estimated cost: $100
The Texas mission trip will be working with Disability Resources in the Abilene area. For further details, please contact Jim Strother at jimstrother@prestonwoodchristian.org.

Honduras Mission Trip
Estimated cost: $2,000
The Honduras mission trip takes students to the Valle de Angeles located 45 minutes from the capital of Honduras. There students will work with a local Christian orphanage which is home to 120 kids from birth to 18. Students will be sharing God's love through crafts, English classes and spending time working with the kids in their daily activities. Students will also be able to experience the Honduran life through cultural activities and spending time with the locals. Costa Rica Intelligent Design Study and Mission Trip
Estimated cost: $1,610
The Costa Rica trip will allow students to examine firsthand the intricate design of God’s creation. Limited research assignments in advance of the trip will prepare students to observe symbiotic relationships and unique design structures in rainforest and volcanic ecological niches. In addition, students will help local churches meet the spiritual and physical needs of the Costa Rican people through several ministry opportunities. This is a great opportunity for students interested in science fields as well as those who just love nature and the opportunity to serve others in a missions setting. England-Christian Heritage Tour
Estimated cost: $2,300
The London trip is designed to expose our students to the Christian heritage that we have inherited from the past. This trip will focus on the history of the church in England. Students will walk in the footsteps of C.S. Lewis, Charles Haddon Spurgeon, Wesley, Tyndale and Wycliffe. LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES

Local Mission Ventures

Estimated cost: $50
Students opting for local mission ventures will be working in conjunction with Prestonwood Baptist Church's City Ministries and Bridge Builders. Students will perform vital mission activities to spread the love of Christ to the people served by these various ministries. Students will perform such activities as childcare, volunteer work, clean-up, and soup kitchen duties. For further details, please contact Donovan Kelly at dkelly@prestonwoodchristian.org.

Internship Program
Estimated cost: $25
The internship program is designed to give students an opportunity to work, study, and participate in a partnership effort between local professionals, corporations, businesses, and schools. It will allow hands-on experience in a profession they are considering as a career. This will be a five-day unit of study that includes four days in the field and a day for reporting purposes. Sponsors and students will be paired, and accountability factors will be agreed upon between the sponsor and the school. Other Classes
Faculty members have volunteered to teach special classes during Minimester for students who do not choose one of the aforementioned activities. Students will have a varied selection to choose from, including but not limited to:
