UPPER SCHOOL

ENGLISH NOVEL REQUIRED READING
English novels required for students in 9th through 12th grade will be available for purchase in The Hub during the Upper School Open House on Back to School Day. The books will continue to be available for purchase in The Hub after school starts.

SUMMER READING REQUIREMENTS

  • Students who will be enrolled in English 9-12 (regular and honors 11/12) are expected to read one required book for English during the summer. When they begin school, students will be tested on the selections. Teachers will discuss elements of the assigned novel in class. These test grades will be counted as part of the student's overall grade for the first quarter.
  • Students who will be enrolled in Pre-AP 9, Pre-AP 10, AP English 11 and AP English 12 are expected to read two books during the summer for English. Class discussions will precede testing on the two required books. First quarter grades will include the scores for these tests.

In order to help students with comprehension and thematic focus, teachers have prepared summer assignments for the assigned literary work. These questions are due the first day of class, and students will receive a daily grade for completing these questions. The questions are available online.

We look forward to working with your student in the upcoming year, and we pray God's blessings on our time together. If you have any questions about the requirements, questions, or assignments, please contact the Upper School office at 972-820-5060.
