PCA RUNS PAST DALLAS PARISH 28-24 ON WAY TO STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
KYSER SCORES THREE AND THROWS FOR ONE IN ROUTE TO STATE FINALS
11/29/09
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS – Before a crowd of over 2,500 Prestonwood supporters, senior QB Kaleb Kyser took control of the game, running for three scores and throwing for another. Kyser would end the evening with 102 yards passing on 20 attempts.
Junior Kenneth Huggins provided much needed run support, scampering for 106 yards on 16 carries. More than the yardage gained, Huggins power running kept the ball away from the Parish offense. Junior Riley Standridge provided the winning score in the fourth quarter with a 4 yard run from a direct snap from the wildcat formation. Seniors Scott Lichty and Andrew Mobley rounded out the receiving with 30- and 32-yards, respectively.
Senior Cory McNeil was good on all four of his point after attempts.
Prestonwood’s defense would again bend and not break, holding the high-powered Parish offense to just three points in the first half. Late in the fourth quarter and PCA clinging to a four point lead, Parish took over with four minutes left for their final attempt. After two first downs and no time-outs, the Prestonwood defense would take their finest snap of the evening, stopping Parish on a critical fourth down, one-yard attempt at PCA’s 30-yard line with 30 seconds remaining.
PCA’s defensive efforts were led by senior linebackers Clifton Bryant, Tyler Kleinert and Trevor Scheef. Senior cornerbacks Josh Caldwell and Aaron DeLeon, junior safety Andy Ryan, and sophomore safety Anthony Morgan provided much-needed passing support, holding Parish to zero passing yards.
PCA will play Argyle Liberty Christian in the TAPPS Division II State Championship next Saturday at 11:30 a.m. at Killeen’s Leo Buckley Stadium. Prestonwood last played in the state finals in 2005 with a victory over Houston Northland Christian. PCA was a state finalist in the 2004 game as well.

PCA Crushes Houston Second Baptist by 49-17
State Semi-Final Game on Saturday, November 28
Against Dallas Parish Episcopal School
TEMPLE - On the first play of Saturday's game between the PCA Lions and Houston Second Baptist Eagles, junior Kenneth Huggins ran 74 yards for PCA's first score of the day. Huggins would finish the day with 219 yards on 12 carries, leading the Lions to a victory over Second Baptist by a score of 49-17.
Senior QB Kaleb Kyser accounted for three of PCA's touchdowns on runs of 5 and 10 yards, and a pass to senior Scott Lichty for 66 yards. Kyser would finish the day with 107 yards passing, completing 5 of 7 attempts, and 129 yards rushing. Juniors Riley Standridge and Sean Hansen would complete PCA's scoring with a touchdown each. Standridge finished the day with 85 yards rushing and 21 yards receiving. Senior Cory McNeil was successful on PAT's on each of PCA's seven touchdowns.
PCA's defensive had a superb day, holding national recruit QB Connor Wood (Rivals Top 20) to 167 yards passing on 36 attempts and 107 yards rushing. Second Baptist potent offense would finish the day with 341 yards offensive and 18 first downs, but only 17 points scored.
PCA faces district rival Parish Episcopal School in the TAPPS District II State Semi-Finals next Saturday at the 12,000 seat Birdville Athletic Complex in North Richland Hills at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the state championship game on Saturday, December 5 at Killeen Leo Buckley Stadium.

An exciting new development in the PCA Initiatives plan is being implemented beginning this Friday, Sept. 18, 2009! Friday night our PCA Lions take on the Trinity Christian Academy (TCA) Trojans, marking our first FREE live webcast for all home PCA varsity football games! All family, friends and PCA supporters who can't make it to the stadium can still experience the Friday night excitement of the fighting Lions live, in-action, by viewing the games at www.dfwserver.com/pca. The opportunity to webcast affordably opens many doors to reaching our friends and supporters beyond the borders of our campus and gives PCA many more opportunities to webcast other campus-wide events in all areas live and with high-quality.
On-campus activities for this weekend's game against TCA, which is Lower School Night, include a pre-game Tailgate Party starting at 6:00 p.m. inside Lion Stadium gates in Gateway Plaza, which includes complimentary hotdogs and activities for children of all ages. Tickets for varsity football games can now be purchased in advance on Tuesday-Thursday at the Lower School and Upper School receptionist desks.

PCA H1N1 Important Update: Sept. 14, 2009
Dear PCA Parents,
Like all schools and organizations in our area, we are doing everything possible to take proactive measures to safeguard the health and wellness of our students during the H1N1 situation. In addition to senior leadership having constant communications with state health organizations and our school nursing staff, we will continue with our preventative measures on campus. We encourage you to visit our PCA Web site, which will be updated immediately if there are new developments. PCA takes the current H1N1 situation very seriously and we are in constant preparation to prevent cases of influenza on campus.
We are heightening our disinfecting measures on all surfaces, closely monitoring student symptoms, increasing personal work space between students, encouraging proper hand washing and good hygiene, discouraging the sharing of supplies and food, and providing extra tissues and hand sanitizer in the classrooms.
As you know, flu can be easily spread from person to person. Therefore, we need your assistance at home in taking steps to reduce the spread of flu at PCA. We want to keep functioning in a normal manner during this flu season and our partnership will help us accomplish this goal.
In working closely with county health agencies and the health department to monitor flu conditions, we are able to make decisions about the best steps to take concerning PCA.
Please help us by taking the following preventative measures at home with your students to stop the spread of flu within your home and PCA:
- Be aware of your child's behaviors that may exhi b it the onset of flu, such as fever and flu symptoms include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, and fatigue; some are experiencing vomiting or diarrhea
- PCA's Fever Policy states that students with temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be sent home from school and should be picked up within an hour of parent notification. Students sent home with fever should be fever-free without the use of fever reducers such as Tylenol or Motrin in the last 24 hours before returning to school
- "Social distance" is very important to containing the spread of the flu. Please reinforce with your student the importance of personal space while at school and keeping hands to themselves
Please keep your student home from school if they are ill, showing flu-like symptoms or you believe that they m a y not be able to function for the entire school day. These days are considered excused absences and they may return when they are fever-free without the use of fever-reducing medications. NOTE: If a student has a confirmed case of the flu, PCA will excuse those absences and they will not count against exemptions from final exams
- Encourage your students about the importance of good hygiene by washing hands and wrists properly and often - 15 seconds under warm water with soap; encourage students to cover their mouth and nose with a tissue or their arm when coughing or sneezing - not using hands
Discourage students from sharing personal items such as supplies, food or drink by students during the school day, not just during lunch period
Be assured as parents that PCA and Prestonwood Baptist Church are fully engaged i n the situation and is doing everything possible to combat the flu and the spread of the flu at PCA
If your student is at a higher-risk for contracting the flu due to chronic medical conditions, please consult their physician about staying at home
- Watch your class newsletters and communications for updates, as needed
- Visit the PCA Web site for the very latest information. Our Web site is your most IMPORTANT source of PCA information on the flu. We will notify you of any changes of our school's strategy to prevent the spread of flu on the Web and through email and e-flashes. Visit online resources such as www.flu.gov or to call 1.800.CDC.INFO for more information
Thank you and we appreciate all of your assistance as we coordinate efforts to prevent and contain the spread of the flu at PCA. I appreciate your assistance in this important matter to best protect our students.
Sincerely,
Larry Taylor
Head of School

SERVICES FOR CONNOR CRUSE
07/12/09
Here is additional information regarding the services for Connor Cruse. There will be a visitation time Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Fireside room at Prestonwood Baptist Church. The funeral will be held in Prestonwood Baptist Church Worship Center Tuesday morning at 10:00 a.m.
The Cruse family wants this special time to be a celebration of Connor's life and an opportunity to offer praise and thanksgiving to God for His faithfulness to Connor throughout each day of this difficult journey. The family has requested that children wear bright colors (t-shirts are fine), and that adults wear colors (dresses, ties, etc) that are in line with a celebration as well (Connor's favorite color was lime green).
The service will be followed by the burial at Turrentine Jackson Morrow - Ridgeview Memorial Park cemetery. The funeral procession will leave from the front of the church. The graveside service will be open to all who wish to attend, and will be followed by a reception for everyone at Prestonwood's MainStreet Cafe.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to TeamConnor, a non-profit organization created to support families, raise awareness, and find a cure for childhood cancer. More information on Connor's journey and how to donate to Team Connor can be found at www.teamconnor.org.
Thank you for your continued love and support. Your prayers for the Cruse family are greatly appreciated.

PCA SWINE FLU (H1N1) UPDATE
Friday, 05/01/09, 9:55 p.m.
As we move into the weekend, PCA is continuing to monitor the ever-evolving health situation and taking important measures to ensure the health and safety of PCA students. PCA senior-level administration is participating in daily update conference calls throughout the weekend with all statewide Texas agencies, including the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Department of Health, in order to be apprised of all current developments. This allows us to obtain important information directly from the sources and in a timely manner. PCA continues to partner with Prestonwood Baptist Church in expanding our precautionary steps of disinfecting and sanitizing all interior and exterior shared spaces. The disinfecting products used throughout the school and church have a seven-day preventative barrier and we are choosing to utilize these products twice weekly on all surfaces, equipment and supplies. These practices also will be in place at the conclusion of Sunday services and activities at Prestonwood Baptist Church.
We encourage you to contact your pediatrician should you have any health-related concerns. Information about swine flu is available at www.cdc.gov/swineflu/key_facts.htm and www.texasflu.org.

DALLAS MARCH FOR LIFE
01/16/09
In the spirit of collaboration, PCA faculty, staff and students discussed the concept of working together with various denominations and religions to achieve a common goal of cultural transformation. One area discussed is what we have in common with other religious groups is the value of human life – we affirm that abortion is wrong, socially unproductive and creates a culture that celebrates death. There are numerous activities in the culture that speak to this issue and one of the most productive and positive is the Dallas March for Life. As PCA addresses the sanctity of life in the month of January to commemorate the infamous Roe v. Wade decision which legalized abortion and removed all state restrictions from the procedure, there is a great opportunity to mark this solemn occasion by not merely remembering the past, but working to change the future on this issue.
Thousands of pro-lifers will gather on Saturday, Jan. 17 at the Cathedral at Ross and Pearl streets in downtown Dallas – the crowd will include Catholics and Protestants and individuals from all walks of life. While Catholics celebrate Mass inside the Cathedral starting at 10:30 a.m., Protestants will gather outside at 11:30 a.m., singing and waiting for Catholics to join in a march from their location down to the federal courthouse where Roe began over 36 years ago. There will be various speakers before the 1.9 mile walk and after laying a wreath and praying at the courthouse, the crowd will return to First Baptist Dallas for $5 box lunches and an informational fair with live sonograms. The event is sponsored by Texans for Life Coalition, the Catholic Pro-Life Committee of North Texas, Catholics Respect Life, Concerned Women for America – Texas, the Texas Life Chain, the Downtown Pregnancy Center and more.
If you are interested in traveling down to this event together, please meet at the PCA Upper School parking lot at 10:30 a.m. Otherwise, you are more than welcome to meet us down at the rally that morning. Please bring $5 for the box lunch if you are interested in lunch. The shuttle should return back to PCA by 3:00 p.m.
This is a family event – feel free to bring everyone along for the journey. It would be very helpful if you would contact Mary Carl Finkelstein if you are planning on attending to help make sure a large enough shuttle to accommodate all who would like to join in this event.
ALL SCHOOL WORSHIP WITH SPECIAL GUESTS
THIS THURSDAY, JAN. 15
01/14/09
Prestonwood Christian Academy invites all PCA families--parents, students and grandparents--to attend the 2009 All School Worship in the Prestonwood Worship Center beginning at 1:00 p.m. Please join us as we celebrate the sanctity of life by recognizing the diverse ways in which God created us. PCA categorizes diversity in six different areas: age, ability, economic status, ethnicity, gender and race.

 |
David Ring is our guest speaker who brings personal experience to the subject of diversity. Mr. Ring speaks nationally to audiences about his cerebral palsy and how God uses him to reach people for Christ. For more information about Mr. Ring and his ministry, click on his name.
Also joining PCA for a time of worship is Fellowship Christian Academy (of Dr. Tony Evans' Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship Church). We look forward to the special music they will bring. |
|
The service will begin at 1:00 p.m. and conclude at 2:30 p.m. for Middle & Upper School students and parents in the Prestonwood Worship Center. Due to the length of Mr. Ring's speech, grades PK-K will be dismissed at 1:40 p.m. to return to class for the remainder of the school day. Grades 1-4 will remain in the sanctuary. An offering will be taken to provide more opportunities for our students for Service Project Days and mission efforts. Parents, I encourage you to experience this powerful service first-hand. There's nothing quite as sweet as seeing the Lord work on the hearts of our students.

Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
Original Adaptation by James Maxwell, revised by Alan Stanford
All of the wit and romance of Jane Austen's classic 1813 novel come to life in this refreshingly fast-paced and humorous adaptation. Finding a husband is hardly Elizabeth Bennet's most urgent priority. But with four sisters, an overzealous match-making mother, and a string of unsuitable suitors, it's difficult to escape the subject. When the independent-minded Elizabeth meets the handsome but enigmatic Mr. Darcy, she is determined not to let her feelings triumph over her own good sense -- but the truth turns out to be slipperier than it seems. In a society where subtle snubs and deceit proliferate, is it possible for Elizabeth and Darcy to look beyond their pride and prejudice, and to make the best match of all?
PCA’s production of Pride & Prejudice has a cast of 32 students in grades 3-12. The cast is led by seniors Heather Hollabaugh, Christopher Silverberg, Natalie Williams, Bethany Laughlin, Danielle Roach, Elizabeth Lloyd, and Emily Bell with juniors Carolyn Shannon and Mark Adams in the roles of Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Bryan Wallace, senior, designed the set, Madison Paulette, junior, is the publicity designer and junior Meaghan Kelley is the choreographer.
All performances will be held at the Eisemann Center’s Countrywide Theatre in Richardson, TX.
Showtimes:
Friday, Nov. 14 at 8:00 p.m.
Saturday, Nov. 15 at 2:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
