PCA's Moment to Shine
11/30/2004
As a school of 1,334 students, 916 families, 158 employees, and thousands of friends and supporters from the local community, we have the opportunity to shine like never before. Before thousands of loyal PCA fans, in their very first football playoff visit, our Lions will face perennial state finalist Waco Reicher Catholic High School in the TAPPS Division III state championship game at Baylor's Floyd Casey Stadium in Waco on Saturday, December 4 at noon.
Saturday's state championship game will showcase:
- Fifty-four student athlete football players (14 seniors, 16 juniors, 13 sophomores, and 11 freshman) participating in a match that they have already played several times in their dreams.
- Fourteen varsity cheerleaders and one mascot cheering on the sidelines in a stadium larger than many have been to—even as a fan.
- Twenty-two competitive cheerleaders performing for a large crowd at halftime, preparing to defend their own national championship in late December.
- Thirteen adults coaching in a game that many have waited for their entire careers.
Tickets for the state championship game will go on sale at both the Upper School and Lower School reception desks tomorrow and will remain on sale until our ticket supply is exhausted or until Friday at noon. Those who are unable to pre-purchase tickets for Saturday's game will be able to purchase tickets at the gate at Baylor's Floyd Casey Stadium. Directions to the stadium can be found on the home page of PCA's website at www.prestonwoodchristian.org.
Most schools never have the opportunity to face an opponent in a national or state championship match. In its brief 7 year history, Prestonwood Christian Academy has been blessed to do so six times before this school year (competitive cheerleading, national champions, 2000; competitive cheerleading, national champion finalist, 2001; competitive cheerleading, national champion finalist, 2002; volleyball, state champion, 2003; competitive cheerleading, national champions, 2003; baseball, state champion finalist, 2004) and once already this school year (volleyball, state champions, 2004). Playing in a football state championship game anywhere in the nation, let alone in Texas where high school football games draw more fans than an NFL game (11/27/04, Southlake Carroll – Abilene verses 11/28/04, Arizona Cardinals – New York Jets), is a HUG E deal and should be supported widespread by our students, parents, staff, and local community. It is our prayer that 1,334 students, 916 families, 158 employees, and thousands of friends and supporters from the local community show up at Baylor's Floyd Casey Stadium at noon on Saturday to support Prestonwood Christian Academy!
As Gary Gaines, head coach of the very same Odessa Permian Panthers that were recently portrayed in the movie “Friday Night Lights”, said at halftime during their fifth visit to the state championship game in 1988, “Being perfect is about being able to look your friends in the eye and know that you didn't let them down. I want you to put each other in your hearts forever because forever is about to happen. Can you live in that moment as best you can, with clear eyes, with love and joy in your heart? If you can do that, then you're perfect.”
This is Prestonwood Christian Academy's moment to shine!
