Operation Christmas ChildOPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD
10/24/07

Operation Christmas Child boxes will be collected beginning Nov. 5 through Nov. 16. Brochures will be available beginning Monday, Oct. 29 at both the Upper School and Lower School reception areas.

This year, all boxes need to be the clear, one gallon plastic shoe boxes. These boxes are preferred as they can be reused by the families that receive them. The standard Operation Christmas Child box will not be provided by PCA this year. Please follow the instructions carefully when filling your boxes with items for the children. This year, postage is $7.00 per box and it is very important to include that with the tear-off portion of the brochure.

Seventh through twelfth grade students turning in their boxes the week of Nov. 12 will have the opportunity to get their picture taken with Santa...just bring your box to the Upper School atrium area before the start of the school day. Fifth and sixth grade students should bring their boxes to Mrs. Gullatt’s reception area. Seventh and eighth grade students should take their boxes downstairs to the collection area outside the Science lab.

Please join us in reaching our school-wide goal of 1000 boxes!

10/16/07

Tickets for the PCA Fall Play - The Miracle Worker are now on sale!

The Miracle Worker is a dramatization by William Gibson. Performances will be at the Eisemann Center of performing Arts, at Countrywide Theater in Richardson, Texas.

This stirring story of Helen Keller is one of the most successful and warmly admired plays of the modern stage. Blind and mute, and nobody knows what Helen's fate might have been had she not come under the tutelage of Annie Sullivan, an Irish girl who had been born blind. Little Helen, trapped in her secret world, is bitter, violent, spoiled and almost animal like. Only Annie realizes that there is a mind waiting to be rescued from that dark, tortured silence. Annie's success with Helen comes only after some of the most turbulent, violent, and emotion packed scenes ever presented on the stage.

Silent Moment for Virginia Tech Tragedy
04/14/2007

As most of you are aware, a terrible incident took place on the campus of Virginia Tech University in Blacksburg, Virginia yesterday that has resulted in a number of deaths and injuries. Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims and their families, and to the members of the Virginia Tech family who are deeply shaken by the worst campus shooting in our nation's history.

At 8:20 a.m. on Thursday morning, the Prestonwood Christian Academy 5th through 12th graders will observe a moment of silence in memory of the victims of this terrible tragedy. Should you decide to do so, please feel free to join us and together we will pray for those involved.

In times of such deep sadness, we realize that our students—your children—may be saddened and confused by the senselessness and magnitude of what has happened. Please know that we support and encourage age appropriate discussions on this tragedy between you and your children, focusing on the eternal hope that we have in Jesus Christ.

Troubling events such as this one naturally leads us to the question of safety. Please be assured that Prestonwood Christian Academy seeks to create a safe campus environment for our community each and every day. Our faculty and staff regularly undergo training in methods to protect our campus, and our facilities have been designed with safety precautions in mind. There is only so much one can do to protect itself against random acts of violence such as the one that occurred on Monday, but please know that we are focused on remaining as vigilant as possible.

I hope you will join me in continuing to keep the Virginia Tech community in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time.

Prayerfully,

Larry Taylor
Head of School

PCA Names New Athletic Director
04/14/2007

We have some very good news to share with you!

We have completed our search for our new Director of Athletics. The Athletic Director Search Committee—a committee comprised of PCA senior administrators, head coaches, board members and parents—reviewed applications from over sixty candidates applying from colleges, schools and businesses across the nation. The review process was intensive, and after much prayer, it became evident that God was involved, and a very qualified leader began to emerge.

Mr. Chris Cunningham will become the Director of Athletics for Prestonwood Christian Academy.
Mr. Cunningham comes to us from the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District, where he has served as Head Varsity Football Coach and Campus Athletic Coordinator at Colleyville Heritage High School for the past 10 years. Prior to his current position, Mr. Cunningham held other teaching and coaching positions within the Grapevine-Colleyville Independent School District dating back to 1985. Chris graduated magna cum laude from Angelo State University with a degree in mathematics and English. He has received numerous area and statewide awards including the 2004 Jim Wacker FCA Coach of the Year, and 2003 and 2006 Dallas Cowboys Coach of the Week.

Chris and his wife, Dana, are members of Gateway Church in Southlake where he teaches a Bible study and is a deacon. Chris and Dana have three children: Caleb, age 14, Joshua, age 7, and Caden,
age 4.

We would like to personally invite you to meet our Athletic Director at a reception in his honor immediately preceding the Blue-Gold Game on Friday, May 25, 2007 at 5:00 p.m. in the Upper School Atrium.

Thank you for your patience and prayers during this process.

PCA Cares - Hearts for Baghdad
04/12/2007

In keeping with the program, PCA Cares, initially established during the Hurricane Katrina crisis, our PCA family once again has the opportunity to demonstrate the love of Jesus to others in need. As events continue to unfold in the War on Terror, specific needs beyond the scope of routine troop requisites become more apparent. PCA Cares will manifest itself this time through the Hearts for Baghdad plan. Colonel Kim Poole, a PCA grandfather currently stationed in Baghdad, recently shared with us about the Hearts for Baghdad plan which is the military chaplaincy vision for meeting the needs of the Iraqi people caught in the midst of the struggle. By participating in this effort, PCA has the opportunity to fight the Enemy's "evil and hate-filled ideology with a better idea...Christ-like love...which sets the stage for evangelism" of the individuals who are so victimized by the Al Queda Extremists fighting in Iraq.

Your participation involves helping us collect basic quality of life items over a two-week time frame. These items will then be packaged and sent directly to Colonel Poole for distribution to thousands of Iraqi men, women and children through the medical and dental clinics that are currently part of the area in which he serves. Won't you consider "being Jesus" to people half a world away? Please read the attached flyer for further information. It is our opportunity once again to spread the gospel through demonstrating the love of Christ. Together with you, we look forward to seeing what God will do through this effort!

Competition Cheerleading Team National Champions
01/13/2007

Defending their title as the 2006 Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders (FCC) National Champions, the PCA Competition Cheerleading team won the title again on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2007! Orlando, Florida was the host for the 2007 National Christian Cheerleading Championships where over 60 Christian schools from across the country competed for the prize of being crowned "the best competition Christian cheerleading team in the nation."

On Dec. 29, 2006 the team also won the National Title (in the Parochial/Private School division) at the 2006 National Cheerleaders Competition (NCA) Senior and Junior High School National Championships in Dallas.

The team had what some might call a "perfect season" by winning all of their regional competitions from October to December and all three of their national competitions: America's Best, NCA and FCC. Coached by Krista Godbee and Pam Purdom, the team consists of girls in grades 7-12.

"Our team has worked really hard, overcome various injuries, and learned to love and encourage each other this year," said Senior, Avery Wright. It's safe to say that a dynasty of competition cheerleading has begun at PCA--and we are proud to say they are our athletes!

If you see one of these athletes, please congratulate them for their hard work and recent victories!

Connor Cruse can now say that he has prayer from around the world—and even from space. Connor’s friend and Kindergarten classmate, Logan Doyle, headed up his own project by having people from all over the world pray for Connor. The response that followed was incredible. Click here to see the story on Channel 11 (search for prayer and this is the first video).

Not many can say that they have received a prayer e-mail from an astronaut while he was in space, but Connor Cruse can. Kindergarten-student Logan Doyle’s e-mail requesting prayer for Connor, who has been dealing with Cancer and health issues stemming from the illness, reached the far corners of the world and they all want to join in on the prayer for healing this young boy. May we embody the pure-hearted Logan Doyle in making a significant difference in our friends’ lives with a simple gesture such as prayer.
