PCA Competition Cheerleading Team Wins Third NCA National Championship

Prestonwood Christian Academy's Competition Cheerleading team competed in the NCA High School National Championship today at the Dallas Convention Center.
PCA won their third NCA National Championship with a 9.24 overall score! Other teams in their division included Antonian College Prep High School from San Antonio, Texas, Assumption High School from Louisville, Kentucky, and St. Rita High School from Chicago, Illinois. They were also one of the top two scoring teams in the entire competition consisting of over 167 teams from all over the United States.
The Competition Cheerleading team will travel to Orlando for the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders National Championship the first week of January.

Competitive Cheerleading Squad Headed for National Competition

PCA Competitive Cheerleaders have competed in four regional competitions and in all four, they have won first place in the Parochial division as well as Grand Champions of all of the High School divisions in both public and private divisions.
On Dec. 7 and 8 they competed in the America's Best National competition in Ft. Worth. This was the first of three National Championships in which they will compete.
They won their division and then won the overall "Grand National Championship." A rigorous practice schedule is planned over Christmas break and the squad will compete in the NCA National Championship at the Dallas Convention Center on Dec. 28 and Dec. 29.
The schedule for competition is prelims are on Dec. 28 from 9:00-10:30 AM, and finals on Dec. 29 are scheduled from 8:30-10:30 AM. The squad's final competition is the FCC (Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders) Nationals in Orlando, Florida, Jan. 5-6.
Twenty PCA Students Qualify for the National Competition 12/01/2006
Twenty PCA Students qualify for the ITS national competition out of 26 who competed from our troupe. There were 118 schools at the competition. PCA was one of four private schools to compete at the festival. There was only one other school including private and public that had has many national qualifiers as PCA. The national competition is being held at the University of Nebraska, June 25-30, 2007.

Group Musical: Caroline Clark, Tyler Scheef, Hayley Whited, Harrison Ross, Janielle Kastner, Heather Hollabaugh, Ashley Kidd, Lacey Gibson, Brian Watson, Christopher Silverberg, Emily Bell, Courtney Campbell, Sarah Morey, Callie Wharton, Natalie Williams and Jordan Daigle.
Daniel Vildasol directed a one-act play at the festival and Jenna Paulette and Brian Watson received best actor awards for that production.
Also, Danielle Roach, Hunter McGehee, Kacey Spivey, Kathryn Heasley, Macauley Hopper and Celeste Smith received excellent markings for their presentations.
Finally, Jenna Paulette received callbacks from 12 colleges and Tyler Scheef received 11. Several students were offered college scholarships, including juniors, Katie Hittle and Megan Bowdon.

Seven PCA Students Named to All-Region Choir - Four Advance to All State Choir

Congratulations to the following PCA choir students for their outstanding achievements in the area of choral music.
Congratulations to Upper School choir students Lindsey Prowse, Caroline Clark, Elizabeth Callanan, Jenna Paulette, Tyler Scheef, Troy Dixon and Josh Nivens for being named to the TPSMEA All-Region choir. Of those seven students, Lindsey Prowse, Jenna Paulette, Tyler Scheef and Troy Dixon were named to the All-State choir. The All-Region choir performs on Jan. 13, 2007 in Fort Worth, and the All-State Choir performs on Jan. 27, 2007 in San Antonio. Special congratulations to Lindsey Prowse who was ranked #1 out of over 200 soprano entries from private schools across Texas.

Out of the 27 Texas high school students receiving an early signing from collegiate baseball teams, three of them are students at Prestonwood Christian Academy.
Catcher Cameron Rupp, Senior, accepted an early signing opportunity with the University of Texas. The future Longhorn is the son of Kevin and Kathi Rupp of Plano, Texas. As a junior, Rupp was named All-State in 2006 TAPPS 5A, was named 1st Team All-District and the 2006 Offensive Player of the Year for TAPPS District 2-5A and was selected to play in the 2006 AFLAC All-American Game and won the AFLAC Home Run Derby by making a record of seven home runs.
Hunter Hill, Senior, received an early offer to become a Golden Knight from the University of Central Florida as a pitcher. Hill is the son of Mark and Susan Hill of Dallas, Texas. As a junior, Hill was named All-State in 2006 TAPPS 5A, was named 1st Team All-District and the 2006 TAPPS District 2-5A MVP. In addition, he was named to the TAPPS 5A State All-Tournament Team.
Furman University gave an early welcome to John Paterson, Senior. Paterson, the son of John and Pamela Paterson of Dallas, will join the Paladins in the fall of 2007. As a junior, Paterson was named 1st Team All-District as a 3rd baseman for the PCA Lions.
“Each of these athletes possesses the capability and the heart to succeed at the collegiate playing level,” shared PCA Head Baseball Coach Mike Maack. “I’m not surprised at the early signing opportunities—I knew their talent wouldn’t be overlooked at the university-level. It was simply of question of which university.”
AP Scholar Awards for Class of 2006 and 2007 11/10/2006
Twelve students from Prestonwood Christian Academy have earned the designation of AP® Scholar or AP Scholar with Distinction. The College Board’s Advanced Placement Program offers students the opportunity to take challenging college-level courses while still in high school and ultimately receive college credit. At Prestonwood Christian Academy eleven students qualified for the honor of AP Scholar by earning an average grade of 3 or higher on a 5-point scale on three or more exams. Students receiving the honor of AP Scholar are: Hannah Haese, daughter of Tim and Laurie Haese; Autumn Hamit, daughter of Wayne and Waneta Hamit; Marcus Hill, son of Marc and Susan Hill; Colin Hogan, son of Mike and Brenda Hogan; Jennifer Jeffcoat, daughter of Jim and Jan Jeffcoat; Rusty Mason, grandson of Phyllis Mason; Kara McKee, daughter of Phil and Cassandra McKee; Brandon Merrill, son of Kyle and Julie Merrill; Tiffany Scott, daughter of Terry and Jenny Scott; and Bryce Taylor, son of Larry and Delinda Taylor. Matt Lloyd, son of Robert and Amy Lloyd was named AP Scholar with Distinction. This honor was awarded for an average score of 4.5 on a 5 point scale for five AP Exams. The #4 ranked PCA Lady Lions volleyball team continues to climb up the ladder to a State Championship. After winning their Bi-District championship, they are on their way to the Regional Tournament.
Don't miss the Regional match on Saturday, Nov. 4, beginning at noon. Coach Euler, along with senior captain Taylar Sullivan and middle hitter Jessica Oliver will be leading the charge as the Lady Lions battle Arlington Grace Prep at Bishop Lynch. The winner will advance to the State Semi Finals on Thursday, Nov. 9.
Operation Christmas Child - A Project of Samaritan's Purse

PCA is collecting gift boxes again this year for this wonderful ministry! Beginning on Monday, Oct. 30, Operations Christmas Child brochures will be available in the Lower School, Middle School and Upper School reception areas. These brochures have instructions on how to fill up a gift box for operation Christmas Child.
Please note boxes will not be provided this year, so please start saving those old shoe boxes or purchase a plastic container and start filling up your "shoe box" full of love! Boxes will be collected in the lobbies of the Lower School, Middle School and Upper School. The last day for collection is Friday, Nov. 17.

Due to all the traffic from the parade staging as well as students arriving for the parade, the recommended parking lot for parents is the Sports & Fitness Center parking lot, located east of the Upper School.

The Parade will begin at 9:30 a.m. just north of Main Street (outside the Prestonwood Commons). Bleachers will be set-up along part of the parade route for parents; however, you are welcome to bring a lawn chair to enjoy the fun too! New this year, the parade will go through the Upper School parking lot and end directly into the plaza at Lions Stadium.

Four Seniors Receive National Merit Honors 09/25/2006 Autumn Hamit, Chris Smith, Kara McKee and Bryce Taylor have received National Merit honors from the National Merit® Scholarship Program.
Autumn Hamit, daughter of Rev. Wayne and Mrs. Waneta Hamit of Flower Mound, and Chris Smith, son of Mr. Will and Mrs. Kim Smith of Plano, have been named National Merit Commended.
Kara McKee, daughter of Mr. Phil and Mrs. Cassandra McKee of Frisco, and Bryce Taylor, son of Mr. Larry and Mrs. Delinda Taylor of Carrollton, have been named National Merit Semifinalists and will continue to compete for the honor of National Merit Scholar.
Autumn, Chris, Kara and Bryce are four of 1.4 million students from nearly 21,000 high schools who entered the 2007 National Merit Program by taking the 2005 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®). This program awards nearly $46 million dollars in scholarships to seniors around the nation.
To become a National Merit Finalist, Kara and Bryce will have additional requirements to meet such as having an outstanding academic record throughout their high school career, being endorsed and recommended by their principal, and earning SAT scores that compare with their qualifying test scores. They must also submit an in-depth scholarship application, which includes a self-descriptive essay about their own leadership and involvement in their school and community.
The Finalists for 2007 will be announced beginning in April and ending in July. Congratulations to all of our honor recipients!

Middle School has a special evening planned for Friday, Sept. 29 as they gather together for fun, food, fellowship and football! At half-time, Middle School students take to the field to cheer on the finalists of our Middle School “Air It Out” competition. Don't miss it!
Middle School students and their families will gather at the gazebo area by the lake at 6:15 PM for a family tailgate party. Then, make their way to the Varsity game at 7:30 PM to cheer on the Lions. Friday night, Sept. 8 PCA will honor the Lower School at our annual Lower School Night. Lower School students have the opportunity to parade in front of the home crowd and form a tunnel on the field for the mighty PCA Lions varsity football team to run through! This promises to be a wonderful night under the Friday night lights! Pre-K through 4th Grade will begin lining up at 6:40 p.m. at the South End Gate to begin their parade and tunnel line. Kick off for the game is at 7:30 p.m.

PCA Lions Baseball Headed to State 05/08/2006
The PCA Lions baseball team defeated Midland Christian Academy in the state regional playoffs on Friday by a score of 4-1. PCA junior Hunter Hill led the Lions from the mound.
The Lions will play Houston Second Baptist in the state semi-finals next Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Waco ISD Sports Complex in Waco. The victors from the two semi-final games on Friday will play in the state championship game at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday at the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton. The PCA Lions baseball team and Lady Lions softball team enter the state playoffs this week. The Lions will play Houston Northland Christian on Thursday at 12:00 p.m. at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton. ISEE Testing on February 18 at PCA is Still Scheduled 02/17/2006
Despite the threat of inclement weather, the Independent School Entrance Exam (ISEE) hosted by Prestonwood Christian Academy in the Lower School building will still be held starting promptly at 9:00 a.m. Check-in starts at 8:30 a.m. Anyone not seated by 9:00 a.m. will be required to re-schedule at a future test date. Palmacci Signs with Stephen F. Austin 02/10/2006
Senior Erika Palmacci has signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches this fall. Palmacci is a two-year letter winner at PCA in both soccer and track and field. In two short soccer seasons, the 5-5 forward has tallied 55 goals and earned recognition on the all-district and all-state tournament teams. Palmacci captained her team in 2005 and 2006, guiding the team to the TAPPS Division II state championship in 2005. The team is three wins away from repeating the feat again this year. Palmacci is an honor student and is the daughter of Greg and Julie Palmacci.
PCA Swimmers Place at State Meet 02/06/2006
All eight PCA swimmers advanced to the TAPPS state swim meet in Austin February 3-4. The girls relay team (freshman Blair Stephens, sophomore Tiffani Hall and juniors Kristi Hall and Haley Davis) posted impressive performances, placing fifth in the 200-yard medley event and seventh in the 200-yard freestyle event. Kristi Hall placed third in the 100-yard breaststroke, swimming a 1:19.51, just four seconds off first place. She also placed sixth in the benchmark speed race, the 50-yard freestyle, swimming a 28.64. Sister Tiffany Hall also had an impressive meet, placing fourth in the 100-yard freestyle event with a 1:04.14 and fifth in the 200-yard individual medley, with a 2:36.06. Haley Davis competed in the 100-yard backstroke.
The boys relay team (freshman Travis Sladky, sophomores Preston Sladky and Alberto Garcia-Olivares and senior Stephen Oehlschlaeger) improved their times in both the 200-yard medley and the 200-yard freestyle events. Alberto Garcia-Olivares also competed in the 100-yard backstroke and the 50-yard freestyle events.

Online Reenrollment Extended until February 6 02/02/2006
In an effort to better serve our customers, we have extended the deadline to reenroll students for the 2006-07 school year until 11:00 p.m. on Monday, February 6. Earlier this week, the PCA website was down due to unforeseen circumstances, causing difficulties with some in accessing our reenrollment site. A late reenrollment fee of $100 will be assessed starting at 11:01 p.m. on Monday, February 6.

In the event you are unable to access PCA's website for whatever reason, you may click here to bypass the PCA site and link directly our online reenrollment solution. And please remember these three important steps to reenrollment:
Complete an online Contract of Enrollment for the 2006-07 school year; and
Review/Update your child(ren)'s medical information in your online family profile. If nothing has changed, please indicate this by entering a current date at the bottom of each child's form; and
Complete the Parent Opinion Survey. If you have completed the entire reenrollment process except for the Parent Opinion Survey, click here to complete this last simple step. Your access code was provided in an earlier email from the Admissions Office.

Cheerleaders Gain National Championship at FCC 01/10/2006
PCA's Competitive Cheerleading team won the National Championship at the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders competition in Orlando on Saturday, January 7. Ninety-seven teams from Christian schools in 14 states competed head-to-head against each other in an effort to be crowned "number one" in the country. In six years together, PCA seniors and co-captains Brittni Beeson, Amanda Boyd, Jennifer Jeffcoat, Allie Martin, Morgan Pertle, Kate Purdom, Ashley Schonefeld and Sam Scott won the NCA National Championships twice, Americas Best National Championships three times and Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders National Championships once.
