SPIRITUAL DISCIPLINES

What benefits the body is called medicine; what benefits the soul, discipline.
— Augustine

But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night.
— Psalm 1:2

Medication imprints truth deeply on the conscience, and engraves it on the tablets of the inner man, as with the point of a diamond or a laser beam.
— Oliver Heywood

Memory is the treasury and guardian of all things.
— Marcus Tullius Cicero

Prayer, fasting, meditation, memorization, solitude, service, worship, and study are just some of the essential ingredients to be practiced by believers as part of the maturing and growing Christian “walk.” Each area can be strengthened, broadened and fortified to create a deeper knowledge and love for the Lord resulting in a balanced Christian life. Weaknesses should be strengthened and strengths should be continuously surrendered to the Lord lest we become prideful. We are not to worship the disciplines themselves, but practicing spiritual disciplines places us in a position to experience the presence and work of the Lord in our lives.

The PCA Parent Resource List is segmented into categories that follow the Five Areas for Spiritual Growth: Passion & Devotion, Spiritual Disciplines, Biblical Literacy, Cultural Apologetics, and Parenting & Family. The list will be constantly updated, so be sure to check back often for the latest additions.
