Learn about the Bible through art. Students will learn about animals, symbols and maps in the Bible. They will also learn about costumes and dress, Armor of God, using patterns and borders. We will focus on the food, fashion and lifestyle that each girl experienced during their era of time. We will sample foods, make crafts and hear stories that relate to the American Girl Collection series. Our journey will also include role play and critical thinking activities. This week will conclude with a trip to the new American Girl® Boutique and Bistro at the Dallas Galleria.

CROSS-STITCH BASICS

COOKING, MANNERS AND NUTRITION
Instructors: Phyllis Abrahamson, PCA Middle School Teacher Eleanor Frank, PCA Lower School Physical Education Teacher
Location: PCA Upper School U100

Students learn basic cooking techniques such as measuring, mixing, kneading, following recipes, and presentation. Class members will also learn to use a variety of different cooking tools and ingredients and will have the opportunity to prepare several different dishes throughout the week. In addition, students will also study healthy menu planning, place settings, table manners, and the art of being a host or hostess. The camp will culminate with an event for which the students will prepare the menu and serve as hosts and hostesses. This week is sure to be loads of fun and a little messy!

CPR FOR FAMILY AND FRIENDS (ADULT/CHILD/INFANT)

Persons successfully completing this CPR for Family and Friends course will receive an American Heart Association program participation card, but not a CPR credential. This course is intended to teach people to perform CPR in a safe, timely and effective manner in the event CPR is ever needed for a family member or friend. Course includes:

HEARTSAVER AED

Successful completion of this HeartSaver AED course will lead to a credential (American Heart Association HeartSaver ADE card) in HeartSaver AED. Successful return demonstration of the CPR and AED techniques taught in this course will be required. There will not be a written test. This is a four-hour course. This course is also great for students considering becoming an assistant to the athletic trainer. Course includes:

  • Adult CPR with AED
  • Child CPR with AED
  • Infant CPR
  • Adult, Child and Infant Choking

As our world is being dominated by social media, it has become more important for parents to embrace the digital world in which their children live. You’ll learn how to securely set up your page and how to avoid dangerous online situations. And, in the end, you’ll still be able to function online–just with a little more wisdom.

LEGO® BUILDING CAMP

PAINTING LANDSCAPES: A SYNTHESIS OF GOD’S CREATION

SAFE SITTER BASIC

This is a nationally-recognized course with Safe Sitter trained instructors designed for young adolescents 11-13 years of age. This 6-1/2 hour course includes Babysitting as a Business, Success on the Job, Child Care Essentials, Safety for the Sitter, Injury Management, Preventing Problem Behavior, Care of the Choking Infant, and Care of the Choking Child. It introduces Injury Prevention and Behavior Management. The Safe Sitter Student Manual is included in the course fee.

SAFE SITTER EXPANDED

Safe Sitter Basic is a prerequisite to this Safe Sitter Expanded Course. This second-day option to the Safe Sitter Basic Course includes 6-1/2 more hours of training designed for more comprehensive coverage of content for baby sitters. It includes a review of the topics covered in Safe Sitter Basic plus Infant and Child CPR. It allows for more practice time and expanded information on Preventing Injuries and Behavior Management. Though Infant/Child CPR is covered in this course and CPR skills are taught, it does not lead to an American Heart Association CPR credential. Students will need to bring their Safe Sitter Student Manuals purchased in Safe Sitter Basic with them to this course. The fee of the manual is included in course fee.

VOCAL TRAINING AND TECHNIQUE

SUMMER THEATRE CAMPS KIDS ON CAMERA

Instructor: Pam Hurt, PCA Theatre Teacher

This fun on-camera class will encourage your child’s creativity while building their acting skills and self-confidence. This course begins a foundation for learning the skills necessary to audition and perform in front of an audience. Students will:

  • Play theatre games and exercises to build creativity
  • Develop their own characters
  • Get “camera comfortable” for auditions
  • Perfect their “slates” to camera
  • Perform scripts from real television shows
  • Memorize lines and work with others in scenes
  • Participate in an acting showcase in front of a live audience
  • Students will have a black and white professional headshot taken by a photographer The last day parents will be invited to watch a performance showcase.

MUSICAL “DEAR EDWINA, JR”
Instructor: Pam Hurt, PCA Theatre Teacher
Location: PCA Upper School U202

Students in this camp will have the opportunity to participate in a week-long intensive rehearsal for the junior version of the musical “Dear Edwina, Jr.” Students will work on all aspects of musical theatre including acting, singing and choreography. Students will learn to create a character, collaborate with a group and perform in front of a live audience.

Note: There will be auditions for the lead speaking/singing roles on Tuesday, May 27 from 3:30-5:30 p.m. and callbacks will be on Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. in room U202. Students must be registered and paid-in-full for the camp before auditioning for a lead role. Cast members will be given the scripts/music to work on before the camp in July.

Also: In addition to the camp times, there will be a dress rehearsal on the evening of Thursday, July 10 and the performance will be on the evening of Friday, July 11.

Dear Edwina, Jr - The Story
Follow the adventures of advice-giver extraordinaire, Edwina Spoonapple, as she directs the kids in the neighborhood in production number after hilarious ARTS & ENRICHMENT production number in her “Advice-A-Palooza” extravaganza. Written in the style of “Schoolhouse Rock Live!” and “You’re A Good Man Charlie Brown,” “Dear Edwina Junior” is the perfect girl-power musical offering many great roles for female performers. Edwina Spoonapple and her troupe of performers present their “advice-a-palooza festival” and learn along the way that taking your own advice may be the best advice of all!

Do you hate to memorize lines or do you want to improve your acting skills? Improvisation is a fun, interactive and quick thinking theatre discipline! Come and learn improvisations that can sharpen your wit, release your fears, teach you to be in the moment and have you laughing so hard your head explodes! Learn how to get suggestions from an audience and use them in a sketch. We will utilize simple props, costume pieces, hats and wigs to inspire characters.

UNDER THE SEA

The sea is filled with stories from under the sea. We will act out ocean stories and learn a musical number. Come play under the sea with stories such as “Rainbow Fish”, “Little Mermaid”, and “Nemo.” Students will learn through the use of puppets, masks, costumes, creative movement, singing and pantomime. Families are invited to put on their flippers and goggles and join us for an in-class presentation.“Glub, glub, glub.”This is fish language for, “See you there!” A short in-class presentation for families will be given on Aug. 1 at 1:30 p.m.

AUDITION WORKSHOP

This workshop is designed to help the student learn how to put together a more successful audition for theatre, musical theatre or college. Students need to bring a prepared monologue and song with sheet music. Students will:

  • Learn how to pick the right monologue and/or song for an audition.
  • Learn how to make strong choices in character development.
  • Learn how to put together an audition folder.
  • Learn how to work with an accompanist in an audition setting.
  • Learn how to slate properly.
  • Learn what college representatives are looking for in an audition.
  • Learn to showcase individual strengths in an audition. Lunch and an accompanist will be provided.
