PRESTONWOOD CHRISTIAN ACADEMY STUDENTS PRESENT INAUGURAL COMMUNICATION ARTS AWARD

The Communication Arts Impact Award Presented to Pastor Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church

Prestonwood Christian Academy (PCA) students representing the Communication Arts Program presented The Communication Arts Impact Award to Pastor Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church on May 14, 2019.

The award is given to an individual, business or organization working to skillfully employ the areas of speech and media communications for the advancement of the Gospel and to bring about significant cultural transformation.

In the inaugural year of the award, PCA's Communication Arts Team, led by Director of Communication Arts Meg Parker-Wilson, nominated Pastor Jack Graham of Prestonwood Baptist Church as the recipient. Dr. Graham was selected because "he has gone beyond the walls of the church building to minister to the culture both domestically and internationally. He has led the development of broadcast ministries and a state-of-the-art media team," said Mrs. Parker-Wilson. "He has been a supporter of Christian filmmakers as well as starting Powerpoint Ministries. Pastor Graham is an author and speaker as well as an engaged civil servant. His commitment to excellence and support of the Communication Arts Program at PCA is further evidence of his desire to train up future storytellers in all areas of business, ministry and culture to make an impact through Jesus Christ," she continued.

"I am so thankful for this award and the heartfelt meaning behind it from our Communication Arts Program at PCA," said Pastor Jack Graham. "But I am even more grateful to know that so many of our PCA students not only have an interest in the communication arts, but they are also thriving and truly using their voice and skills for the glory of God. I can't wait to see all that God will do in the lives of our students through this impactful program."

The Communication Arts Program at PCA exists to train students to be intentional storytellers who think critically about their message, creatively engage their audience and effectively use communication to transform the culture for Christ. PCA is purposeful about training students to develop confidence in public speaking through its Stand Up & Be Heard program which is woven into the curriculum for students in Pre-K through Eighth Grade. In Upper School, every student is required to take a speech or debate class. Co-curricular opportunities within the Communication Arts Program include Mock Trial, Speech and Debate, Yearbook, Newspaper and Film and Broadcasting.

"Training in debate and communication has been a central part of my academic development at PCA," said Senior Logan Doyle, who will attend The United States Military Academy at West Point next year. "From the Speech Meet in Lower School to Mrs. Wilson's debate class in Tenth Grade to theatre to Stand Up and Be Heard, PCA has given me numerous opportunities to find my voice and grow my ability to convey a message to an audience. This is an essential skill not only for my professional life, but also to my ability to defend my faith against an increasingly hostile culture. My time at PCA has been irreplaceable, and I would not have wanted it any other way."

"The Communication Arts Team is training our students to be the very best in persuasion through the use of spoken, visual and written word," said Mrs. Wilson. "If we plan to give our students these tools to sway hearts and minds...then we better get the message right. That is why I am so grateful that Prestonwood Christian Academy is training our students in the foundation of a Biblical Worldview."

Prestonwood Christian Academy serves more than 1,600 students enrolled at three campuses: Plano (Pre-K3 through 12th grade), PCA North in Prosper (Pre-K3 through 8th grade) and PCAplus Virtual Academy. PCA North is celebrating its fifth school year with more than 170 students and is now enrolling through 9th Grade as it grows to the first graduating class of 2023! PCAplus is celebrating record-breaking enrollment and has been serving students for 10 years. PCA has been recognized as having one of the strongest Christian education programs in the country providing intentional biblical worldview training and integration. The school places great value on the growth of students' spiritual health in addition to their scholastic endeavors and co-curricular activities. Tantamount to its Spiritual Development plan is PCA's rigorous Liberal Arts academic program. Since its first graduating class in 2002 through the class of 2019, graduates have been offered more than $126 million in scholarship for academics, arts and athletics from universities and other institutions of higher learning.
