Our Story: A Legacy of Christ-Centered Excellence in Education

Founded in 1997, Prestonwood Christian Academy (PCA) launched with a clear purpose: To partner with Christian families in educating students through a biblically integrated, academically rigorous education to prepare them for the world ahead and for eternity.

PCA is more than a system of schools. We are a Christ-centered community committed to nurturing the holistic development of each child for the glory of God.

What began as a single campus in Plano, Texas, as a ministry of Prestonwood Baptist Church has expanded into a thriving school system—serving students across North Texas and beyond.

From traditional and hybrid learning models to a robust online academy, specialized support for learning differences, and state-of-the-art fine arts and athletic facilities, PCA trains Christian thinkers to excel in every vocational field and calling equipped for the world ahead, living strong and empowered lives for Christ.

Timeline of Key Milestones

  • 1997 – Prestonwood Christian Academy opens its doors at Prestonwood Baptist Church in Richardson, Texas, offering Kingdom education to students in Pre-K through eighth grade. PCA's inaugural year began on August 25, 2007, with more than 300 students and 46 staff and faculty members.
     
  • 1999 - Prestonwood Baptist Church moved to its new location, on 140 acres in Plano, Texas. PCA Upper School students began attending classes in the church building in Plano.
     
  • 2000 - Pastor Jack Graham names Dr. Larry Taylor Head of School.
     
  • 2002 - The entire school campus moved to Plano and PCA graduated its first class of eight.
     

  • 2003 – Lions Stadium opens, providing a premier athletic facility with a capacity of over 5,000 patrons.
     

  • 2004 – PCA Plano begins expansion of athletic facilities, which includes additions for baseball, basketball, football, soccer, softball, track and field, and volleyball well as major upgrades to Lions Stadium (press box, Gateway Plaza, and The Wall of Champions).
     

  • 2005 - PCA hosts first annual Biblical Worldview Institute (now called Biblical Worldview Conference) which grows into the larges Christian worldview events in the nation. 
     

  • 2010 - PCA wins first State Championships in boys soccer and boys basketball.
     

  • 2011 – PCAplus (now PCA Online) launches to provide flexibility for 7th through 12th Grade students to pursue their dreams while completing a PCA curriculum online, enabling them to be prepared for success in the collegiate learning environment.
     

  • 2014 – PCA North launches in Prosper, Texas to serve the growing Collin and Denton County communities with Christ-centered education.
     

  • 2016 - Student Life Center and Joshua Plaza are opened at the Plano Campus.
     

  • 2016-17 - Inaugural year for PCA's International Student Program.
     

  • 2018–2021 – PCA Plano adds a new 60,000-square-foot Middle School and renovates the Fine Arts facility complete with a Black Box Theatre.
     

  • 2021 – PCA Hybrid program launches, offering a flexible education model for K–4 students with a combination of in-classroom and at-home learning.
     

  • 2021 - Dr. Michael Goddard is named Superintendent of the PCA School System.
     

  • 2022 – Joe Perry Sports Complex opens, enhancing athletic facilities for PCA students.
     

  • 2022 – PCA North expands with five new classrooms, enlarging two existing classrooms and additional school office space.
     

  • 2023 - PCA North graduates its first class of nine students. (PCA North transitions in 2027-28 to a Lower and Intermediate model with 7th-12th Grade students attending PCA in Plano.)
     

  • 2026 - First Lion Legacy Graduate - the first son or daughter of a PCA alumnus to graduate from PCA.
     

  • 2026 - PCA Plano cuts the ribbon to celebrate new Upper School facility enhancements including upgraded science labs, a business center and boardroom, a STEM lab, broadcast command center, Spiritual Development suite, and new space for the International Student Program.

From humble beginnings to a thriving multi-campus system, PCA continues to shape the next generation of Christian leaders—rooted in a strong foundation of faith, character, and critical thinking—preparing them to confidently navigate life’s challenges and opportunities in an increasingly secular world.
